A short exposition of our party and our motives in participation.

Greece entered the 21 century, 'trapped' in a unique social deadlock, which is reflected at the following political paradox: On the one hand, more than any other time in its history, Democracy in Greece is stable and strong, yet its citizens experience everyday its practical abolition by the peculiar regime that has been established by the people who one way or another handle the state assets.

A web of 'vertical' sociopolitical relationships between disparate fractions of neo-privileged groups, unified by their struggle to maintain the special regimes they entrenched after 1975, leeching on Greek society without contributing in the least to the productivity and the economy of the nation.

They exploit the reasonable point for protection of the economically 'weak' to ask for more state intervention, even in sectors whose state presence has brought many ills, when in reality what they desire is to protect their acquired rights against the excluded majority.

Studying the recent history of Greece, from its independence (1820s) till now, one can conclude of a deeply rooted statist belief, almost metaphysical one, that asks citizens to grant authority to very few people to handle the wealth of the state (supposedly for the benefit of the citizens) in exchange of nothing more than crumbs.

Whilst Greek People now that they are subject to exploitation, quite irrationally insists on waiting the 'change' from the institutions and groups that have a vested interest to retain this sinister condition. If it was not tragic, it would certainly be droll, that in the 21 century, a time of democratically elected governments we experience in our country a transition of power based on the family name.

We are spectators of a system that has managed to reproduce successfully itself ensuring the perpetual exploitation of the many, by the few.

By accepting the mistake that we were making as citizens, waiting a solution from the existing parties, we joined our forces, a group of citizens that decided to take control of our responsibilities in society, responsibilities that cannot be discharged by witty description of the current dire political situation. Our disappointment cannot be entertained nor expressed properly by words alone. History teaches us that the world changes through proposals and actions not judgements.

Acting on the rights defined by the Constitution, we decided to form a political alliance that is founded on the principals of political liberalism. We do not intend to record the numbers of Liberals in Greece but we mainly aspire to continue the long tradition of Liberals who from the margins of society, were able to intervene with their positions, to the developments, to the degree of provoking chain reactions to the societies they lived.

We consider imperative the need to cover the deficit of representing liberal principals, ideas, and proposals to Greek Politics.

Is our attempt ambitious? Perhaps, but it is not without precedent.

We chose the word 'Alliance' to define our political movement, to state that we come from every part of the political spectrum.

We all have a history of activism through the existing political formations, an experience that today allows us to have no hope for the true potential of these formations but also for the truthfulness of their intentions.

Sometimes as individuals and sometimes in groups we tried to voice political liberal thought not just in theory, but by submitting specific proposals for the necessary reforms. We have to admit that we were not as successful as we wanted to be. Today, the citizens forming the Liberal Alliance, mature from their experiences from the past, call their fellow citizens asking them for their support of this political formation.

We believe that it will be the citizens who have not been entangled at the works of power that can produce a positive proposal, whereas the others occupy themselves with the negative status quo.

What is the position of the Greek Political Parties against the current situation? Because, themselves, have been eroded by the malign interests, they exhaust their activities in generic wishful moralization, avoiding or not being able to apply the reforms that are necessary to purge these interests

We call our fellow citizens to ally with us for democracy, equality before the law, individual rights, prosperity and the overthrow of the regime of few malign groups that oppose the interests of the many, of all of us.

The principles of Democracy, of freedom of expression, of separation of powers, of protection of human rights, of the rights of an individual to freedom, to self-determination, to freedom of religious belief, to property, to free business, form the foundations and the sources of our political thought and action in society.

We do not recognize the State as a 'protector', we do not grant it our natural right, our right to decide 'for our own good'. We do not accept any discrimination based on religion, sex, wealth, physical disability. We consider the human rights applicable to all humanity and we reject the application of any relativity based on politics.

For us any violator of human rights should be accountable to the international community. Recognizing human rights as one of the setting stones of modern democratic societies we do not accept that national sovereignty is superior to the protection of human rights and so we support intervention of the international community in clear cases of ethnic cleansing and genocide.

We support the right for free business, recognizing the regulatory role of the State on matters of protection of environment and unfair competition.

We oppose the 'State-protector' and the 'State-businessman', we do not oppose the institution of the State itself.

We reject the 'egalitarianism in poverty', and the slandering of lawful enrichment and healthy competition.

We are against any form of racial prejudice, anti-semitism and islamophobia.

We reject any form of terrorism and condemn any one who justifies terrorist acts for political reasons.

We fully embrace the traditional liberal value, freedom of expression. We do not believe that there are dangerous or bad ideas, just dangerous and bad actions and policies. In this context we support the encouragement of every intellectual and scientific effort, free dispersal of knowledge with the development of open source software and we are against the patenting of genes, algorithms and natural data. We support free access to Internet, and free movement of information.

Dear fellow citizens,

Liberal Alliance will intervene in society within the parameters set by the Constitution and the Laws, expressing in political terms its proposals based on the principals of Liberalism. With the power vested in us by the fact that Liberal principals have been historically successful, we do not grant our right of self-determination to no-one. We do not grant them the control of our present and our past. It is not a matter of recording numbers, it is a matter of citizens assuming responsibilities.

We are calling on you to ally with us.
